Volunteers

Role description:

We are looking for team players who are also able to work independently. We need people who are patient, professional and are prepared to respect the pre-existing systems and code of conduct. This is to ensure that our services run as fair and smooth as possible, however, we also welcome new, fresh ideas, energy and enthusiasm.

Each volunteer’s role varies depending on day-to-day needs. For this reason, an open mind and a flexible approach to work are essential. We are currently looking for flexible volunteers who are open to different tasks. Especially people with any of the following skills are needed. However, if you do not recognise yourself in any of these skills but would like to apply, we encourage you to do so!

We are especially looking for people who:

  • would like to teach English, Greek, French or German.

  • play an instrument and would like to teach.

  • are interested in CV Making / Employability.

  • have computer skills e.g. fixing computers and/or teaching a computer class.

  • are handy or have construction skills.

  • can drive a car (especially a van).

  • know how to sew and would like to teach.

  • would like to work in the Women’s space. Especially if you have self-defence skills.

  • are LGBTQIA+

  • speak French, Arabic, Farsi or other languages of the camp community.

Requirements:

  • Start date as soon as possible, latest beginning July.

  • Strict 8 weeks minimum commitment due to the nature of our work and quarantine upon arrival

  • Can communicate in English

  • Over the age of 20

  • A working phone with Facebook messenger

  • Self-funded: this includes organising and covering the costs of your own transport, living costs, and activities outside of our projects. (For more information, see our Travel & Accommodation page)

  • In the current Covid-19 circumstances, we cannot accept applications more than one month in advance of your start date

  • We accept researchers or interns on an ad hoc basis; please be very clear in your application what it is you intend to do, and be aware that Samos Volunteers can only offer limited added supervision and paperwork
